It's also a good chance to get back on the bike if you haven't been riding for a while, or bring friends who you want to introduce to the bikey life (we'll try not to scare them off...).

6:30pm - 9:00pm, We play until we're sick of playing
Do you ride a unicycle? Would you like the chance to attack others, with a stick, while riding a unicycle? Well, this is your event!

Where? When? 6:30pm at the Alberta Park bike polo court, just about EVERY Thursday of the month.

Mallets, balls, and minor first aid are supplied by the Bastards. Bring your own unicycle - any unicycle will do. Bring your own discrete adult beverages and your own antibiotic ointment (heh, I said ointment).

We also like attention - come and watch if you can't ride but are uni-curious.

Prepare to sweat/swear like a Bastard. Also, unicycles - not bikes.

Tai Chi is a powerful daily practice to keep your bike's engine running smooth. Muscle powered transportation is great, but it takes a bit of complimentary exercise to keep your body tuned to ride. Tai chi also cultivates better presence and mindfulness making crashes less likely to occur. This ride will have multiple stops where I'll talk about and lead exercises that introduce the basic foundations of Tai Chi and how it applies to cycling. At the last stop I'll demonstrate a version of Sun Tai Chi form. Feel free to follow along.

DEAD FREEWAYS RIDE Link
5:00pm - 9:00pm, depart from Park Blocks at 5:30pm
What if...Portland built all the freeways it planned? This ride follows the routes of several highways that never made it off the drawing board, such as the fabled Mt. Hood Freeway, some that did but were later removed, like Harbor Drive, and also as a reference some freeways that currently exist. We'll see the parallels of the past freeway fights with what's going on with the current Columbia River Crossing project. Approx 13 miles of riding through moderate traffic.

Want to testify? Please keep it concise. Your testimony must be under 3 minutes. You may want to focus on the fact that individuals are responsible for their own safety and the roads are public space for all.

In the great tradition of last-minuteness, I am taking my application for an Oregon Literary Foundation writer's grant to drop off as close to the last minute as feasible. I am also posting this as late as possible! We'll start at Little T American Bakery (for coffee fuel!), 2600 SE Division; move out to make three copies of our applications at Office Depot, 323 SE MLK Jr Blvd; and then ride across the bridge to Oregon Literary Arts, 925 SW Washington St. -- hopefully amply before 5 p.m.!
