Bringing people together for Bike Fun

Bikey Fun, August 2015

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
The gross and net result of it is that people who spent most of their natural lives riding iron bicycles over the rocky roadsteads of this parish get their personalities mixed up with the personalities of their bicycle as a result of the interchanging of the atoms of each of them and you would be surprised at the number of people in these parts who nearly are half people and half bicycle.

BIKE-IN MOVIE Link
Vera Katz Statue, SE Eastbank Esplanade and Main St Take Trimet
9:00pm
This got rained out last weekend.  Let's try it again...

Why is it that every post-apocalypse movie has people driving cars and fighting for gasoline?  Why not friendly people on bikes helping each other?  Oh, well, let's watch Mad Max: Fury Road anyway.

We'll meet at Vera Katz, and take a short ride to the outdoor "theater" location.  Bring a chair or blanket to sit on.  Maybe dress a little warmer than you otherwise might; sitting and watching a movie won't keep you warm the way biking will.  Maybe bring a beverage.  I'll bring the popcorn!

DEAD FREEWAYS RIDE Link
South Park Blocks in front of Lincoln Hall (PSU), 900 SW Market St Take Trimet
4:00pm - 7:00pm, departing promptly at 4:30 pm
What if...Portland built all the freeways it planned? This approx 10 mile ride follows the routes of several highways that never made it off the drawing board, such as the fabled Mt. Hood Freeway, some that did but were later removed, like Harbor Drive, and also as a reference some freeways that currently exist. We'll see the parallels of the past freeway fights with what's going on with current and future projects. At the end we'll stop for food/drinks and talk.

This time it's a ride to a free screening of the entire movie courtesy of Portland Movies in the Park. It will be shown at the Rose Garden Amphitheater in Washington Park. The movie in this screening should be the sing-a-long version that has not yet been released on home video. This version has pop-out lyrics on screen as well as other enhanced visual effects. The ride up to the amphitheater is about 3.5 miles using the less-steep meandering route to get there. Things to bring: picnic blanket, movie admission money ($8), and money for food carts (as no outside food and drink is allowed once inside the gates), helmet, lock, lights for the ride home.
