Bikey Fun, November 2014

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
I came out for exercise, gentle exercise, and to notice the scenery and to botanise. And no sooner do I get on that accursed machine than off I go hammer and tongs; I never look to right or left, never notice a flower, never see a view - get hot, juicy, red - like a grilled chop. Get me on that machine and I have to go. I go scorching along the road, and cursing aloud at myself for doing it.

30 It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.

There are significant barriers to taking the first step into transportation advocacy. People whose voices most need to be heard often experience obstacles to advocacy just because the process is so obtuse.  The CCC worked to figure out what would demystify transportation funding, budgets, & processes so that anyone can participate.
Come hear about a tool, built with help from Code for Portland, that makes make city budgets, citizen reporting, and community meetings accessible to everyone.

TRAINS AND LEFT LANE RIDE Link
Portland Doubletree, 1000 NE Multnomah Street, Portland, Oregon, 97232 Take Trimet (Meet at the bike mural on Multnomah Street)
12:00pm
This ride combines the redesigned and widened N Williams Bikeway with the nearby 2014 Model Railroad Show. We’ll start riding from the Multnomah Cycle Track over to N Williams, going the entire length of the new left-side bike lane on Williams. If you’ve never ridden a left-hand bike lane, it feels odd at first – sort of like going to another country and driving on the left side of the road. At the North end of the left-side bike lane the ride jiggers over to the NE Rodney Neighborhood Greenway for the return to the Model Railroad Show at 2505 N. Vancouver Ave. which has a $6.00 entrance fee.
