A RIDE OF TWO CITIES Link
MAX Blue Line Ruby Junction Station, E Burnside St & SE 197th Ave Take Trimet (meet at the East end of the MAX station, a block East of 197th)
11:00am
Get in some pre Super Bowl cycling on a ride through the two cities to Portland's immediate East, Fairview and Gresham. We'll go by the city hall of each, although Fairview's downtown is so small, it's easy to miss. Around Fairview, highlights include the Gresham-Fairview Trail, the Salish Pond City Trail, and the picturesque West and East Salish Ponds. In Gresham we'll ride the length of the new multiuse path that parallels the MAX Blue Line and goes right by City Hall. This ride is a 9.5 mile loop going back to the start at the Ruby Junction MAX station.

It's the 100th anniversary of the Interstate Bridge, so we're riding over both Columbia River bridges on the way to the official celebration event at the Red Lion on the South side of the I5 Bridge. The ride takes place on the Vancouver side of the Columbia, an area generally not familiar to Portland cyclists, but almost all of the ride is on paved, separated multiuse paths, and there's a viewing tower and even a couple of free museums along the way.

VISION ZERO PROTEST RIDE Link
Dawson Park, 101 N Stanton St Take Trimet
4:30pm - 6:30pm
On February 6 another person was killed by a right-hook collision while cycling in Portland.  Four out of six of the last cycling deaths involved preventable right- or left-hook collisions. This type of collision has been a major safety issue for decades but the city continues to drag its feet on funding laws and infrastructure that can prevent tragedy. We will ride to the location of this recent death to protest the city's inaction and demand that it fund its committment to Vision Zero (the goal of working towards zero traffic deaths). Please feel free to bring signs, messages, flowers, candles, and/or other symbols of outrage.

Come on a ride to the top of the mysterious and possibly haunted Mt. Baldy, otherwise known as Grant Butte. There's a bald spot on top that provide a spectacular view to the South, and at this time of year you can see the inaccessible Knife River Quarry through the trees to the North. This 200-foot deep chasm has been nicknamed "The Grand Canyon of Gresham." The top of Grant Butte is also the site of the Blair Witch Geocache, and we'll have some trinkets to drop in the treasure chest (if we can find it). Note that there's a steep but short section of trail to walk bikes up. Cargo bikes and trailers are not recommended. Ride is a 6.5 mile loop back to Ruby Junction.
